The Beach Express toll bridge, a crucial link between Foley and Orange Beach, is reportedly close to being acquired by the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT). This means the end of tolls could be coming soon.
Currently owned by the Baldwin County Bridge Company (BCBC), the bridge provides an alternative to the State Route 59 bridge, connecting Pleasure Island to the mainland. While an official announcement from ALDOT is still pending (expected at 11 am today), reports suggest a purchase price of $60 million.
The best part? Tolls could be eliminated as early as noon next Friday, just in time for Memorial Day Weekend! This would be a major win for residents and tourists alike.
